When your meeting with a new prospect DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
I always want to have an understanding of what that person does for a living
Their LinkedIn profile will give you a lot of information about what they do, their interests, past job history, connections you may have in common etc. Check out their Website, Facebook and Instagram and request to connect with them if your not connected already.
You want to find something that you both have in common. A person, place or thing, this helps to break the ice!
When you meet you want your new friend to do most of the talking. You also want to show that you do know a little about them and bring up the commonalities that you have found early on.
Always be professional and positive, never talk negatively about anyone, you don't know who they know and it could become very uncomfortable fast!
